UPGRADE YOUR OIL FURNACE
“Hurry, Limited Funding Available” |
 |
The City of Orillia is announcing an incentive rebate to upgrade old oil furnace heating system for all properties within the 2-year Wellhead Protection Area of the two lakeshore municipal drinking water wells. |
Undetected oil leaks can pose a serious environmental hazard. The City wishes to reduce the risk of an oil leak impacting the water aquifer in the vicinity of these two wells. This “Oil Heating Incentive Program” is a City “Source Water Protection” initiative.
The City will rebate 33% of the cost to a maximum payment of $2,500 to replace your oil tank and piping and upgrade to a new high efficiency furnace using any fuel of your choice. This limited time offer is available only to properties situated with the 2-year Wellhead Protection Area. This encompasses an area bounded approx. by Tecumseth Street, Cedar Street, Lawrence Avenue, and Lake Couchiching (see map or call for details).
The incentive rebate is offered on a “first come, first served” basis effective immediately until the funding is exhausted or December 15, 2009.
This is an excellent one-time opportunity to assist you in upgrading to a new high efficiency furnace of your choice.

MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
WATER SYSTEM MASTER PLAN 2009 UPDATE - PUBLIC COMMENT INVITED
The City of Orillia is updating its Water System Master Plan, which identifies the water infrastructure requirements to service the City re-urbanization and development of land in West Orillia. The purpose of the Master Plan and this update is to address limitations related to the existing drinking water system, both with respect to existing services and to service future development; in terms of quality, quantity and any capacity issues.
Planning for updating this existing plan will continue to follow the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. By maintaining this approach, the Master Plan will satisfy the first two phases for the Class Environmental Assessment for Municipal Water and Wastewater Projects; to plan, design and implement the future components of the schedule of works.
For further information on the existing Water System Master Plan, or to inspect a copy of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, please contact Ms. Glenda Kruska, C.E.T., Water/Wastewater Technologist at Department of Public Works – Engineering, 50 Andrew Street South, Suite 300 Orillia ON L3V 7T5 (705) 325-2271 or email:

Public input and comments are invited for incorporation into the water system master planning process, and will be received until November 13, 2009. Subject to comments received the City of Orillia intends to finalize the update by January 28, 2010.
Information will be collected in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. With the exception of personal information, all comments will become part of the public record.

Annual Hydrant Inspection
The City of Orillia will be conducting their annual hydrant inspection within the next month. This involves the flushing and testing of 844 hydrants in the City. This preventive maintenance measure is necessary to ensure that the hydrants are safe and functional when needed by the Fire Department. Under normal circumstances, the complete procedure takes no longer than 15 minutes per hydrant and approximately 30 hydrants are done per day. Advance notice to the public concerning exact work scheduling cannot feasibly be provided. During the flushing operation, poor pressure and/or "RED" water may result. This situation is temporary. The discoloured water is not hazardous but, if detected, the public is requested to simply open their cold water taps in order to clear the system. Please call 329-7249 if you have any questions.

Effective July 1, 2010, residents and businesses of Orillia will be issued 30 garbage tags for the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.
