-Emergency Preparedness Information -

Emergencies are defined as situations or impending situations caused by forces of nature, accident or an intentional act that constitutes a danger of major proportions to life and property. They can effect public safety which includes the health, welfare and property, as well as the environment and economic health of the City of Orillia.

City of Orillia Fire Protection and Prevention Services is the coordinating department for the City of Orillia Emergency Management Program; responsible for developing and maintaining programs and plans to enhance the safety of Orillia residents and reduce property damage and economic loss in the event of an emergency.

All communities, large or small, are vulnerable to major emergencies such as tornadoes, floods, blizzards, and power outages. When an emergency of this scale occurs, local municipalities are usually the first level of government to respond. However, municipalities are not alone in emergency response. Everyone is responsible for the health, safety, and well being of our community. Being prepared, as an individual citizen, and knowing what to do and what to expect will help you and your family to cope until help arrives, should an emergency or disaster affect your community.

If there is a Evacuation and citizens need to be evacuated, you would be notified by:  an emergency official knocking at your door providing emergency instructions, emergency services driving through your neighbourhood with a loud speaker and/or over the local radio, television or internet. If you have be evacuated, take your Emergency Survival Kit with you and plan to be able to keep your family comfortable for at least 72 hours.

DON’T WAIT, BE PREPARED!!! DEVELOP YOUR FAMILY EMERGENCY PLAN TODAY! KEEP A SURVIVIAL KIT IN YOUR HOME AND A SMALLER ONE IN YOUR CAR.
