Overview of the Department

The City of Orillia Fire and Rescue services are committed to administering the best level of service to the residents of our City. Our constant monitoring of the industry has allowed us to adapt to the ever-changing environment that we live in. Our emphasis has also focused on non-traditional areas that include extensive follow-up programs. These programs include victim assistance through the various agencies from both within the city and from outside the geographical boundaries that we serve.

It is our hope that by being able to assist the victims after our intervention in the initial event, we give the victim the ability to recover with the least impact on them as possible. Understanding this gives the victim hope and reassures them that they are not alone.

Other initiative that makes a difference is our proactive approach to retrofits and compliance on multi-unit dwellings. Access to many more addresses because of our suppression activities has allowed us the opportunity to ensure that these properties meet the Ontario Fire Code. To ensure that compliance is met we meet with the owner and work with them to get the job done. Our private/public partnerships have also been a benefit to the department and the community. These partnerships allow us access to boats for rescue and firefighting, thermal imaging cameras and donations for the many programs we provide.

This department has 42 full-time employees; 1 Fire Chief, 1 Deputy Fire Chief, 1 Executive Assistant, 32 Suppression Staff, 3 Fire Prevention Staff and 4 Communicators. In addition there are 28 volunteers and 2 part-time employees.
