What is Respect +?
Respect + is an inclusive program adopted by the City of Orillia that applies to all City of Orillia sports and recreation facilities and programs. The Respect + program enforces a set of expectations and prohibitions with regards to inappropriate behaviour of participants and the general public.
What does Respect + mean?
Respect + stands for Respect and Responsibility. Everyone has the right to feel safe while attending a program or facility - with that right comes the responsibility to be accountable for your actions that may put others at risk.
Does the Respect + program apply to only sports organizations?
No. The components of the Respect + program apply to all individuals and organizations that utilize the City of Orillia recreational facilities. The facilities include arenas, sports fields, parks, beaches, meeting rooms as well as any facility used for “Neighborhood School Programming”.
How should an incident be reported?
If you are involved in, or witness an incident you should report it to the facility staff or a Respect + ambassador. With your assistance, they will complete a written Respect + incident report. If neither staff nor an ambassador is available a Respect + incident report should be completed on-line at www.city.orillia.on.ca and then forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Department.
What is a Respect + Ambassador?
All organizations that use Orillia recreational facilities must designate one or more volunteers to act on behalf of that association to enforce the Respect + program.
If I report an incident, will it be kept confidential?
In accordance with the city’s privacy information policy, all incident reports will remain confidential.
What types of incidents should be reported?
All forms of inappropriate behaviour such as violence, vandalism, or participation in any illegal activity are unacceptable at any City of Orillia recreational facility. Incidents involving any of the following should be reported in writing.
u Harassment
u Intimidation
u Vandalism
u Obscene/Vulgar Language
u Threats of any nature
u Use of Alcohol / Drugs
u Verbal Assault
u Physical Assault
u Physical Abuse

What happens once a written repot has been made?
The report will be logged by staff and investigated by the Parks and Recreation management team. After the investigation, the incident will either be dealt with directly by the City, or forwarded to the appropriate organization for follow up.
What are the consequences that may occur?
All incident reports are reviewed on an individual basis. The severity of the incident will determine the nature and degree of the prohibitions. Refer to Policy # 7.3.6.1 – the Acceptable Behaviour Policy for the actual levels of inappropriate behaviour, as well as the corresponding prohibitions.
