Building/Demolition - We charge $8.00 per every $1,000.00 the applicant spends on design, construction and labour, with a minumum fee of $75.00, which covers a project fee of $4,000.00 or less. For example, a project fee of $5,000.00 would be a permit fee of $83.00 (the first $4,000.00 is covered by the $75.00 minimum fee, and then $8.00 for the addition $1,000.00 project fee.) For new Single Family Dwellings, Commercial and Industrial Buildings, there are Development Charges. Contact the Building Department at (705) 329-7258 for more information.
Plumbing - The fee for this depends on the number of fixtures you are installing. Average Plumbing Permit fee for a brand new home is anywhere from $120.00 - $140.00.
Occupancy - $30.00 per unit is the fee for Occupancy. For example, one house would be a $30.00 fee; a 7-unit apartment building would be a $210.00 fee.
Signs
Temporary e.g. Portable Signs; We charge $50.00 for the first 3m2, and $10.00 per each additional m2.
Permanent e.g. Ground & Wall Signs, etc.; Same fees are applied as the temporary sign, but we also calculate the Building Permit fee and charge the greater of the two.
Tent - There is a $75.00 flat rate for temporary tent permits when the tent area exceeds 60m2 (646 square feet).

Change of Use - If an existing building or unit changes the use of the space but no construction is proposed, a Change of Use permit is required. Example: a building that was used as a store is now going to be used as an office. Change of Use permits have a flat rate of $75.00.
