Overview of the Department

This department has approximately 14 full-time employees.

The Planning & Development department is responsible
for building issues and planning/development issues.

The building division is responsible for;

• Compliance review and enforcement of the
Ontario Building Code
• Issuance of building permits
• Inspection of buildings under construction
• Administration of Property Standards
• Administration of Sign By-law
• Responding to inquires from solicitors and the general public.

The planning division is responsible for;

• Administration of the City's Official Plan
• Administration of the City's Zoning By-law
• Pre-consultation on development proposals
• Subdivision and Condominium approvals
• Administration of Development Charges By-law
• Site plan approval
• Administration of the Sign By-law
• Facade Improvement Program
• Committee of Adjustment
• Planning Advisory Committee

In addition the department is actively involved in the following;

• Recreational Trail Development
• Transportation Studies/Surveys
• Studies related to specific planning issues
• Ontario Municipal Board Hearings
• Statutory Public Meetings
• Responding to inquires from solicitors and the general public.
