Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee (EDC) consists of seven members: the Mayor or designate, three members of Council, one representative of the Orillia & District chamber of Commerce, and two citizens at large.
It is responsible for marketing the City with the expressed intent of attracting new opportunities for our community. These investments into our community can be realized in many forms, some of which are more easily measurable than others.
The most obvious ones are in land transactions and new employment opportunities. The EDC is responsible for the marketing and selling of City-owned industrial lands and the promotion of private industrial holdings as well. The Committee helps in the marketing of vacant industrial and commercial buildings. It works closely with the local business community and organizations like the Downtown Orillia Management Board, the Orillia Manufacturers Association and the Orillia and District Construction Association and is a member of the Orillia and District Chamber of Commerce.
The Committee recognizes that tourism is a major contributor to the overall health of our community and are strong supporters of the efforts of Ontario’s Lake Country to market our region as one of “Ontario’s leading four season recreation destinations”.
Regular Meeting Date: 3rd Monday of each month (excluding July and August) at 9:00 a.m. in the Orillia City Centre.
