Accessibility Advisory Committee
(pursuant to the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001)
The Accessibility Advisory Committee consists of seven members - six citizens and one member of Council.
Its mandate is to provide Council with recommendations on removal of barriers to those in our community with disabilities (hearing, sight, mobility limitations). It is also responsible for making recommendations on the annual updating of the City’s Accessibility Plan.
Regular Meeting Date: The second Wednesday of the month, excluding July and August, at 4:30 p.m., Tudhope-McIntyre Boardroom, Orillia City Centre.

City of Orillia Police Services Board
(pursuant
to the Police Services Act)
The Police Services Board consists of five members - one citizen appointed by Council, two citizens appointed by the Province and two members of Council.
It is responsible for ensuring that the level of policing in the City of Orillia continues to adequately and efficiently meet the requirements of its citizens and the guidelines under the Police Services Act.
Regular Meeting Date: Last Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Office of the Mayor, Orillia City Centre.

Committee of Adjustment
(pursuant to the Planning Act)
The Committee of Adjustment consists
of three citizen members.
It has general and special powers, as set out in section 45 of the Planning Act. These include the power to grant minor variances from the City's Zoning By-law, the power to grant permission to expand or enlarge legal non-conforming uses and the authority to permit a change in use where the new use will be more compatible with the intent of the Official Plan or Zoning By-law.
The Committee has the power to grant consents for land severances and easements or right-of-ways within the City of Orillia, pursuant to sections 50 and 53 of the Planning Act.
Regular Meeting Date: Hearings are usually held every three to four weeks (depending on the number of applications) on a Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the Orillia City Centre.

Downtown Orillia Management Board
(pursuant to the Ontario Municipal
Act)
The Downtown Orillia Management
Board consists of nine members - eight members of the B.I.A. and one
member of Council.
The Board’s mission statement
is: To market, beautify, maintain, and develop Downtown Orillia as
a heritage shopping attraction, and as the primary regional centre
for business in Orillia and area.
Regular Meeting Date:
3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at 33 Mississaga Street West
(lower level).

Emergency Planning Committee
(pursuant to the Emergency Preparedness
Act)
The Emergency Planning Committee
is responsible for directing and controlling all emergency operations
and for providing the essential services needed to minimize the effects
of an emergency on the City.
The Municipal Control Group, comprised
of officials of the City of Orillia such as the Mayor, City Manager,
Fire Chief, O.P.P. Detachment Commander, municipal staff and representatives
from the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and Orillia Power
Corporation, assist in making decisions with respect to any emergency.
The Municipal Control Group implements
the City’s Emergency Response Plan, which establishes a plan
of action and organizational structure to efficiently deploy emergency
services.

Municipal Heritage Committee
(pursuant to the Ontario Heritage
Act)
The Municipal Heritage Committee
consists of eight members - seven citizens and one member of Council.
The Committee is responsible for
the stewardship of the designated properties in Orillia under the Ontario Heritage Act. It advises Council on matters related
to man-made heritage and planning. Current projects include: signage
in the downtown area outlining the history of selected buildings;
heritage awards for building restoration; and the heritage designation
of public areas in the City.

Orillia Public Library Board
(pursuant to the Public Libraries
Act)
The Orillia Public Library Board consists of eleven
members - nine citizens and two members of Council.
The Library serves the City of Orillia through the
municipal tax base and the residents of Oro-Medonte and Severn
through contracts. Today’s library must not only satisfy the
needs of our traditional users with book and various media collections
but must provide access to the world wide web and electronic databases
as well as enable our clients to access library service from their
home computers.
Regular Meeting Date: 4th Wednesday
of each month, excluding July and August, at 7:00 p.m. in the Children's
Services Department of the library.

Planning Advisory Committee
(pursuant to the Ontario Planning
Act)
The Planning Advisory Committee
consists of eight members - six citizens and two members of Council.
The Committee's mandate is to review
all planning matters, including the Official Plan, the Zoning By law
and all amendments to these documents, as well as all development
proposals that require planning changes, and to make recommendations
to Council accordingly.
Regular Meeting Date:
Usually once a month at the call of the Chair at 6:00 p.m. in the
Council Chambers of the Orillia City Centre.

Property Standards Committee
(pursuant to the Building Code
Act)
The Property Standards Committee
consists of those members who sit on the Committee of Adjustment.
The Committee has all general and
special powers, as set out in section 15(3) of the Building Code Act,
S.O. 1992, c.23. This includes the power to hear appeals from orders
issued by the Property Standards Officer. On an appeal, the Committee
has all the powers and functions of the officer who made the order
and the Committee may do any of the following things if, in the Committee's
opinion, doing so would maintain the general intent and purpose of
the Property Standards By-law and of the Official Plan or policy statement:
1. Confirm, modify or rescind the
order to demolish or repair.
2. Extend the time for complying with the order. 2002, c. 9, s. 24
Regular Meeting Date: The
Committee meets only when an appeal is received.
