Requirements to obtain a lottery Licence

1. Organization must be a non-profit or registered charitable organization.
2. Organization must have been in existence for at least one year
3. Organization must prove how it benefits the citizens of Orillia and area as a whole.
4. Organization must have one of the following primary purposes:
a) relief of poverty
b) advancement of education
c) advancement of religion
d) other charitable purposes beneficial to the community not falling under a, b, or c.
5. Organization must be properly organized such that it is separate from any other organization. i.e. legally, financially, organizationally.
6. Organization must provide copy of constitution or mandate and budget.

 

Organizations not eligible for a lottery licence

Social Clubs
•Professional associations, unions, employee groups
•Elected municipal representative groups including municipal, regional, provincial and federal governments
•Government agencies or bodies
•Political lobby groups and those persuading the public to adopt a particular view on a broad social question
•Political parties
•Adult hobby groups
•Private sports (i.e. golf/curling) clubs
•Those promoting a political doctrine
•Those attempting to bring about or oppose changes in the law or government policy
•Professional or semi-professional athletics (e.g. CFL, NHL, AHL, OHL)
•Adult recreational or adult oriented sports (e.g. Oldtimers Hockey Teams)

Types of lottery licences

RAFFLE TICKETS Known as "stub draws". Purchase a ticket to win prizes and ticket is drawn to determine winner.

BINGO Played at bingo halls and numbers are dabbed in a specific sequence in order to win designated prize allotted to that game.

BREAK OPEN TICKETS Sold at retail locations, or premises owned and operated by charitable organizations. Tickets are $0.50 or $1.00 each. Tickets have "pull tabs" and three matching symbols indicate a winner.
