- Cross-Connection & Backflow Prevention By-Law -

IMPORTANT NOTICE !

The City of Orillia has adopted a prevention program with the intent being to ensure the municipal water system is protected from pollutants and contaminants which could result in serious health effects, emergency measures, disruption of service, and liability with the violation of the Ministry of Environment Safe Drinking Water Act.

The by-law has set requirements for the items below, with time requirements.

1)         All Commercial Water Billing Accounts (WC)
2)         All private fire hydrants attached to the City water system
3)         All lawn sprinkler systems connected to the City water system

All Commercial Water Billing Accounts (WC) are required to have a Cross-Connection Inspection Report completed by June 30, 2007.

All owners of private fire hydrants are required to submit Annual Inspection Reports. The first report is to be submitted by August 1, 2007.

All owners of lawn sprinkler systems must comply with current plumbing code requirements. Effective dates for compliance are noted in the by-law.

The City of Orillia website will provide all necessary documentation on the requirements for compliance in ensuring a safe and secure potable water system.

Please review the Cross-connection and Backflow Prevention By-law for complete details and see information links for an understanding of the issues pertaining to cross-connection control and backflow prevention.

An information package will be available in the near future on this website or available for pickup at the Wastewater Treatment Centre, 40 Kitchener St. This package will provide contact names, references and forms needed to meet the requirements of the by-law.

As we are all users of the municipal water system, it is the intent of the City to provide a comprehensive approach to ensure the safety of our potable drinking water system.
