Metered Parking/Pay and Display Parking - Costs
Metered parking is available throughout the downtown core. The cost for metered parking is $1.00 per hour. The maximum length of stay at meters varies (see below). Note that "Pay and Display" parking lots require that a minimum of $.25 (or 15 minutes) be purchased.
The meter revenue is used to help cover the costs to repair existing lots, replace outdated parking equipment, acquire new land for parking and maintenance.
Metered Parking/Pay and Display Parking – Time Limits
The majority of on-street metered parking has a 1 hour time limit, however, there are certain streets that have a 2 hour time limit. Please look for signage posted on the parking meters to determine the time limit. Please note that shorter on-street time limits help to ensure regular turn over of vehicles which provides an opportunity for customers to conveniently park in proximity to the business establishments.
The City encourages residents and visitors to park in the 3 hour or 8 hour municipal lots when parking is required for longer periods of time. Please look for signage posted which indicates the time limit in the lots.
Overnight Parking
Parking is prohibited on all City streets and lots from November 1st of one year to May 1st of the following year from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. This provision is in effect whether it is snowing or not. The set fine is $50 and your vehicle may be ticketed and towed.
Fire Routes
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle in a designated fire route zone. Please look for and obey signs when parking in public and private parking lots. The set fine is $100.
Accessible Parking
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle in a designated accessible person parking space without an approved Ministry of Transportation accessible permit. The set fine for parking in an accessible space without an accessible permit is $350.
