Residential Water and Sewer Customers

Residential water and sewer accounts are billed four times a year (every 3 months). Your water meter is read once a year for the annual adjustment bill and the other three billings are based on estimated readings. Water accounts are billed based on a basic charge and a usage charge as metered. The sewage is also based on a basic charge and a volume charge. The volume charge for the sewage is based on the metered volume of water.

The sewage is also based on a basic charge and a volume charge. The volume charge for the sewage is based on the metered volume of water.

Notice to Owners of Tenant Occupied Properties

Under provincial legislation unpaid water and sanitary sewer bills become the responsibility of the property owner.

When a tenant vacates a property, the water and sewer account will be put in the name of the property owner.  The property owner will then receive all water bills and notices unless we have written authorization from the property owner to put the bills into the new tenant’s name.

The City will attempt collection from the tenant addressed on the bill.  However, if unsuccessful, these charges will be added to the property’s tax roll.

The City’s collection efforts do not begin until 3 successive billings have gone unpaid.  Property owners may call the City regarding the status of an account at any time during regular business hours.

If you are an owner of a tenant occupied property, and you wish to have the water bills addressed to you immediately instead of to your tenant, please contact the City of Orillia Treasury Department at 705-329-7239.
