The Lightfoot Trail System

Here at the City of Orillia we are well blessed with many scenic recreation trails which are collectively known as the Lightfoot Trail System.

Millennium Trail

Visualize a 12-foot wide ribbon of pavement stretching from one end of the City to the other! Imagine the enjoyment of being able to in-line skate, bicycle or walk from Wilson’s Point to the Narrows! Picture the pleasure of a wheelchair user being able to travel independently and safely from the North Ward to Tudhope Park to watch a baseball game! Well, now you can!

The City of Orillia’s Millennium Trail is now a reality. Orillia’s official millennium project - a 9.5 kilometre shared-use recreation trail is now complete. The paved trail significantly enhances the attractiveness of this region for tourists, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle for local residents.

The Longest Trail in the World

The Trans Canada Trail is 15,000 kilometres of connected pathways running through every province across the entire country.

Through this trail Orillia now has a permanent link in the Trans Canada Trail. Winding its way across Orillia it will bring people closer to the natural beauty and heritage of our City. This four season trail runs along the abandoned railway lines, from the Narrows in the South East to Highway #11 in the North. As a shared-use path it accommodates casual walks, hiking, running, rollerblading, cycling and cross country skiing.

For as little as $50 per metre, you can contribute to the construction of a new link to Oro-Medonte and receive your name on a pavilion panel at the Port of Orillia.

For more information or to make a donation, please call Joanne Hanzlik at City of Orillia (705) 325-2011 or send e-mail to or click below for a donation form.

Scout Valley

Once used mainly as an ATV playground and illegal dumping site, Scout Valley, a 230-acre ‘nature” park, has been transformed into a superb recreational and educational community resource. An extensive trail network covers the site which includes a Provincially Significant Wetland, a remnant stand of white pine, two substantial areas of hardwood bush and various landforms.
